Frequently asked questions
What does Kivoon cover?
Kivoon covers all public transit on the Isle of Man: every Bus Vannin bus route (50+ routes, 850+ stops), the Isle of Man Steam Railway, the Manx Electric Railway, and the Snaefell Mountain Railway. It includes timetables, live bus tracking, a journey planner, and live departure boards.
Is Kivoon free?
Yes. Kivoon is free on both iOS and Android.
How does real-time tracking work?
Kivoon provides live bus tracking. When a bus is being tracked, you see a "LIVE" badge and an estimated arrival time based on the vehicle's actual location. When real-time data is not available (for example, on heritage railways), the app shows scheduled departure times instead.
The app shows no nearby stops
Make sure location services are enabled for Kivoon in your device settings. On iOS, go to Settings > Kivoon > Location and select "While Using the App". If you are outside the Isle of Man, the app defaults to Douglas.
Departure times seem wrong
Kivoon uses official Bus Vannin timetable data. Displayed times are scheduled departures unless a "LIVE" badge is shown, in which case the time is based on the bus's actual location. If a scheduled time seems wrong, the timetable may have changed recently - email us and we will investigate.
The journey planner is not finding routes
Some locations may be outside the coverage area. Try selecting a nearby bus stop as your origin or destination instead. The journey planner works best when both points are within the island's transit network.
Do buses run on Sundays?
Bus Vannin operates a reduced Sunday timetable on most routes. Some rural routes do not run on Sundays. The Kivoon app shows the correct timetable for the current day, so check the app for Sunday-specific departure times.
Is there a bus from the airport to Douglas?
Yes. Routes 1, 2, 11, and 12 all serve Ronaldsway Airport. The journey from the airport to Douglas Lord Street takes approximately 25-30 minutes. Buses run roughly every 20 minutes during the day.
How much is a bus fare?
Bus Vannin fares are based on distance. A single adult fare within Douglas is £1.40, and a cross-island journey (for example, Douglas to Port Erin or Ramsey) is £3.30. Go Places pre-paid cards offer discounted fares. Children under 5 travel free.
How do I pay on the bus?
All Bus Vannin buses accept contactless payment (card, Apple Pay, Android Pay) for any ticket up to £45. Cash is also accepted. For discounted fares, Go Places 12 and Go Places 6 are multi-journey pre-paid cards available from Bus Vannin. Most non-UK contactless cards work, but Maestro and American Express are not accepted.
When do the heritage railways operate?
The Isle of Man Steam Railway typically runs from late March to early November. The Manx Electric Railway and Snaefell Mountain Railway generally operate from late March to late September/October. Exact dates vary each year. Kivoon shows current timetables for all heritage railways when they are in season.
Is there Uber or taxi apps on the Isle of Man?
Uber does not operate on the Isle of Man. For taxi services, you can call local operators directly. For public transport, Kivoon is the comprehensive option covering all bus and railway services on the island.
How do I get around during TT race week?
During the Isle of Man TT (late May/early June), many roads are closed for racing. Bus Vannin operates modified timetables with special diversion routes. Kivoon will show the TT-specific timetables when they are active. We also publish a TT transport guide on our blog before each year's event.
Does Kivoon work offline?
Timetable data is cached on your device, so you can view scheduled departure times without an internet connection. Real-time tracking and the journey planner require an active connection.
How do I report incorrect data?
Email [email protected] with the route or stop name and what seems wrong. We investigate every report and update the data as quickly as possible.
Service disruptions & complaints
Kivoon displays timetable and real-time data but does not operate any transport services. If your bus did not arrive, your train is late, or you need to report a service issue, please contact the operator directly:
